As you are preparing your 401(k) for retirement, one option you have is to re-allocate it. While it is best for you to give us a call to go over your particular situation in detail, we can give you some general guidelines to help point you in the right direction.

Preparing Your 401(k) for Retirement

If you are within the age range of 45-50 years old, it is a good idea to place some of your assets in a growth-focused portfolio. We recommend placing 60-80% of your capital in moderate to moderately aggressive investments to grow your portfolio. This is because you still have a significant amount of time before you retire. Then, you can take just the balance of this capital and place it in conservative to moderately conservative investments. These are bond or balance fund types of investments.

If you are 50-55 years of age, consider a more moderate portfolio and place 50-60% of your capital in moderate to moderately aggressive investments. Then place around 40% of that balance into balanced to conservative investments.

Finally, if you are 57 years of age or older, you should place only 40-50% of your portfolio in moderate to moderately aggressive investments. The balance of this capital should also be placed in balanced to conservative investments, or bond investments.

Remember, these are just a range of examples to give you an idea of where you could go with your portfolio. Give us a call to discuss your specific situation in more detail so we can fully help you prepare for retirement.
